Update on SECCOM Weekend

Exercise, Not Front Page  Comments Off on Update on SECCOM Weekend
May 092014

Due to an incident elsewhere in  the ATC, there is currently a ATC wide ban on overnight stays during fieldcraft activities.  It is unlikely that this will be lifted before the SECCOM exercise, which means we will not be able to run this event in the planned dates.

To avoid disappointment and disruption to both staff and cadets I have taken the decision to cancel the SECCOM exercise planned for the 23-26 May 2014 and move it to a date later in the year once the policy on overnight stays becomes clear.

In place of SECCOM we have planned a single days fieldcraft training on Saturday 24 May 2014.  More details will follow shortly.

Uniform Update

Not Front Page, Squadron News  Comments Off on Uniform Update
Feb 032014

An update on the uniform situation has been recently received from HQ Air Cadets. There is basically no change, in that the RAF is still short of uniform and the ATC will have to wait until stocks become available.

To attempt to alleviate the situation, within the sector we are able to ask other Sqns for specific items of uniform. The shortages however, extend mainly to Berets, Badges and Black Ties. These are in short supply across all Squadrons. Please note that the Sqn has already spent £140.00 to attempt to resolve this issue.

Therefore, with great reluctance, I am requesting that if we do not have Berets, Badges or Black ties available that cadets purchase their own for the foreseeable future. If this is not possible due to financial issues please come and talk to a member of staff and we will attempt to resolve the issue through other channels financially.

I will post further news as it becomes available from HQ Air Cadets.

    Availability of Uniform

Not Front Page, Squadron News  Comments Off on Availability of Uniform
    Oct 282013

As you may be aware the Squadron is currently experiencing difficulties in issuing and obtaining uniform.

Our Parent Station is RAF Brize Norton, which is one of the busiest stations within the UK and has had serious issues resourcing the manpower necessary to supply uniforms to ATC units.  Although the Squadron does hold a small reserve of uniformthis has now been almost exhausted.

I have spoken with the stores at RAF Brize Norton today and although they are now resourced to provide uniform for ATC units, problems within the RAF Supply Chain mean that there is practically no uniform available to issue to ATC units and they have been instructed to cease issuing uniform units until this is resolved.

I realise that it is disappointing to new cadets not to be able to be issued with new uniform, but at least we are able to issue CS95 uniform.  In the meantime please bare with us while we try and resource uniform locally and this may mean having to ‘share’ items such as berets and belts for parades etc.

Hopefully the RAF will resolve this issue soon and we have an order pending at RAF Brize Norton as soon as this happens.
