After an intensive 4 day course SECCOM 15 is now complete.  Students have completed three days leading in field conditions followed by interviews and presentations.  I would like to congratulate all the students on their full participation in the course and successfully completing SECCOM 15.

All this would not have been possible without the commitment of the staff and cadets who helped out throughout the course and I would like to personally thank them for their efforts over the last few days.  Well done guys.

SECCOM 15 is almost upon us.  Joining Instructions will be provided on Friday 24 Jul 15.  The Squadron has plenty of fieldcraft kit including bergens and webbing so we should be able to equip most cadets.

There will be a safety brief on Monday 27 Jul 15 which is mandatory for those attending the weekend.  I am aware this is relatively short notice but we have been coping with changes to fieldcraft regulations in order to get this activity organised.  More details will follow as they become available.

Update on SECCOM Weekend

Exercise, Not Front Page  Comments Off on Update on SECCOM Weekend
May 092014

Due to an incident elsewhere in  the ATC, there is currently a ATC wide ban on overnight stays during fieldcraft activities.  It is unlikely that this will be lifted before the SECCOM exercise, which means we will not be able to run this event in the planned dates.

To avoid disappointment and disruption to both staff and cadets I have taken the decision to cancel the SECCOM exercise planned for the 23-26 May 2014 and move it to a date later in the year once the policy on overnight stays becomes clear.

In place of SECCOM we have planned a single days fieldcraft training on Saturday 24 May 2014.  More details will follow shortly.

Christmas Exercise

Exercise, Fieldcraft, Squadron News  Comments Off on Christmas Exercise
Dec 162013

On Monday 16 Dec 2013 cadets and staff from the Squadron enjoyed the Christmas Exercise.  This is a long established tradition on the Squadron and always something to look forward to at the end of the ATC year.

The evening began with an inspection with cadets getting points for the way in which they had increased their usual camouflage by the addition of Christmas decorations.  There were many variations including flashing noses and antlers.  This was followed by a briefing to the cadets of the evenings activities.

The scenario was that Santa had crashed his sleigh and had been injured.  The cadets had to locate Santa by a variety of means including meeting secret agents, crossing through borders with goblin guards and singing Christmas Carols to repel enemy forces.

Although it was a wet evening all the cadets thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the secret stores of sweets that were hidden around the area for them to find (and of course eat) during the exercise.
