Ferndown Air Cadets Celebrate Success.
Cadets of 2358 (Ferndown) Squadron spent the evening of the 14th March celebrating their achievements throughout the year of 2015. During the Squadrons Annual Presentation Evening the Cadets efforts were recognised by Wing Commander Toth, OC Dorset & Wiltshire Wing ATC.
During the evening, Special Guests and Parents were enthralled with personal accounts of activities that the Cadets themselves had taken part in. Cadet Dennis and Cpl Brown delivered an exciting presentation on participating in Regional sports. Cpl Brown spoke about his experiences during Annual Camp, Cpl Way spoke about 2358 (Ferndown) Squadron’s gruelling Section Commanders course & finally FS Payne delivered an excellent presentation on the Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course.
The Newly Appointed Office Commanding, Pilot Officer Kevin Haywood took great pleasure in awarding the Cadets the certificates throughout the evening, passing the honour of handing over the awards to OC Wing. And of all the awards the two most sought after, best Cadet 2015 was awarded to Cadet Fitzgerald and the best NCO 2015 was awarded to Cadet Flight sergeant Conner.
The Cadets should be extremely proud of themselves for their continued efforts and ongoing success, Officer Commanding 2358 looks forward to next years for more of the same.

Wing Activities Day
I would like to personally thank all those cadets and staff who turned out to support the Squadron at Wing Activities Day yesterday, as well of those of you who worked up to the event but were unable to attend. Through your efforts we have secured an overall 5th place in the competition, the highest the Squadron has achieved in recent years. I am sure WO Haywood and FS Roberton endured a considerable amount of singing on the bus on the way back.
Though you all contributed to the sucess of the Squadron it is important to recognise the efforts of individuals specifically:
Sgt Conner Team Manager
Sgt Payne for her win in the Over 16 Public Speaking
Cpl Curtis for his individual win in photography
The First Aid Team for their First Place
Cpl O’Hare and the Drill Squad/Banner Team whose work put us in an impressive 4th place overall in drill – only one point behind the 3rd place team.
Overall this was a very sucessful event for the Squadron and you should all be proud to have represented your Squadron and achieved so much on the day.

End of the Year
As we draw closer to the end of the year and Christmas I would just like to thank you, the cadets, for your efforts this year. As a Squadron we have taken part in a huge range of activities this year and you have achieved so much both within the ATC and your support to the local community. The Squadron has gone from strength to strength in numbers and we have now expanded to three Flights.
Of course none of this would have been possible without the Staff Team who have supported myself and the Squadron throughout the year, giving up their evenings and a lot of weekends so that we can take part in so many activities. Thanks goes as well to the Civilian Committee who have been busy working away in the background raising funds for the Squadron.
All that remains is to wish you all a Great Christmas and a Happy New year.
Have a great Christmas!

New Adult Flight Sergeants
Sergeants Calum Roberton and Chris Symonds were promoted to the rank of Adult Flight Sergeant on the Squadron on Fri 20 Dec 13. Both have served four years as Sergeants and have put in a lot of hard work to reach the rank of Adult Flight Sergeant.
In order to qualify for promotion, in addition to their normal Squadron duties, staff must attend a number of different courses, attend Annual Camps at RAF stations, attend a greens camp, help organise activities at Wing level as well as obtaining a qualification within the ATC such as a Basic Expedition Leaders Award or Shooting qualification.
Congratulations to FS Roberton and FS Symonds.
