Junior Leaders
This course is at the very top of the Air Cadet Leadership courses. It lasts nearly 6 months and requires real commitment from its members. This is tough course to get on with only 90 places a year available to 40,000 cadets.
The courses starts with a qualification in which you will be tested in a variety of areas including your physical fitness and ability to present information. If you pass this weekend you still have another 9 weekends to go and a final assessment week.
The course starts in the classroom learning more about the RAF and air Power, honing your presentation, teamwork and leadership skills. It then moves into the field to further develop leadership and teamwork skills. Course members learn a much higher level of fieldcraft skills than normal cadets and blank firing weapons are used. The assessment week will see course members spending a week on a military training area, conducting battle drill and attacks being ferried round in helicopters.
Successful completion of the course results in a Level Two Certificate in Team Leadership from the Institute of Leadership and Management. It also allows you to wear the coveted Maroon JL Brassard.
Ferndown Squadron has a successful history of getting Cadets onto the course and having our candidates come out in the Top 10 in the course.
