We are very pleased to be able to tell you that JHC have managed to accommodate a request for all 157 persons who wish to take part in Agile Spear from Dorset & Wiltshire Wing.

It is ESSENTIAL that all cadets attend with fully signed 3822s, with special attention being paid to the parental approval to fly in service aircraft. Any cadet attending on the day whose book is not signed WILL NOT FLY.

Our Cadets will be collected by Coach from 2358 HQ @ 05:30am.

Currently there is no confirmed end time so parents should be available to collect there Cdt from 2358HQ (late afternoon – early evening).

Dress is civvies – suitable for climbing in and out of a helicopter, warm and waterproof. If it rains the exercise will still go ahead and there is NO shelter available; umbrellas obviously cannot be used! The Army will feed us (24hr rat packs)

NO CAMERAS or MOBILE PHONE CAMERAS may be taken or used while on the exercise. Official photos will be taken but private photography is absolutely forbidden.

This is a live and classified military exercise; you are not to discuss it on social media until AFTER the event.

Wing Event  Comments Off on Bournemouth Air Festival 2015
Aug 172015

A number of cadets from the Squadron will be attending in support of this activity.  Main points as below.

Mission

To promote the Air Training Corps and engage with the general public.

Duration

The Bournemouth Air Festival will be held 20 Aug – 23 Aug 15.

Location

Cadets assisting will be located at the ‘RAF Village’ on the site of what was the IMAX building, next to the Bournemouth Pier Approach.

Reporting

Cadets are to report 30 minutes prior to the start of their shift to the ATC stand in the RAF Village, where they will sign and be assigned duties.

Shift times are as follows:

1000 – 1400

1400 – 1800

1800 – 2000

Dress

Dress for all ACO personnel throughout the show is No. 2 working dress, unless specifically authorised to support a particular exhibit.   Working dress is to be fully compliant with current dress regulations.  Any personnel not adhering to dress regulations will be directed to leave the show site.  Personnel are further advised to have appropriate uniform clothing to-hand in case of wet weather (bring your anorak).

Headdress is not required whilst working within the RAF Village display area but official Service headdress is to be worn when moving through the wider show site and exhibits.  There will be senior officers attending the air show and all personnel are reminded to pay compliments where appropriate.

Discipline

Cadets are reminded that they are representing the ACO and, whether on or off duty, will be under the critical eye of the general public. Consequently, only the highest standards of dress and deportment are acceptable. Smoking, drinking or eating is not permitted whilst in the public eye. Refreshments will be available throughout the day but staff and cadets are encouraged to have water bottles for self hydration in the event of hot weather.  Cadets are reminded that these standards also apply when travelling to and from the airshow, particularly if this is by public transport.

Interacting With the Public

A conscious effort is to be made by all personnel to engage with the public where possible. Courtesy is imperative and members of the public are to be addressed as “Sir” or “Madam”.

Media

Any enquiry from the media (TV, Radio or Reporters from newspapers) should be addressed initially to MCO DWW or SWR or in their absence, OC Dorset & Wiltshire Wing.

Food

Cadets should ensure that they have a packed lunch or similar sufficient to sustain them for their period of duty.

For further information please see myself or WO Haywood this evening.

Operation Agile Spear

The Support Helicopter Force (SHF) has an annual exercise called AGILE SPEAR which addresses Non-combatant Evacuation and Humanitarian Aid scenarios. This year it will be in Dorset. To give realism on the exercise, especially on the second to last day the event culminates in a huge push to process and move a large number of “displaced persons” and “refugees”,

DW Wg has been invited to provide staff and cadets to come in civvies with suitcases to act as the large mass of people that must be processed for eligibility to be flown. This year SHF would also like to have them participate in some other even more interesting serials, if possible. The Exercise will take place on Thursday 10 September – which shouldn’t be the problem it might appear to be as experience shows school and parents have been very good about affording the cadets a day off to join a real-life military exercise.

All attendees should get to fly in a Chinook and there is the possibility of some other airframes taking part as well.

Cadets are to inform WO Haywood of the interest, Cadets will not be permitted to cancel their place at short notice unless due to sickness, please ensure you are definately available before confirming your place, there are limited places available so unfortunately some applications might be unsuccessful.

As this is a school day, cadets should seek permission from schools for authorised absence; a suitable letter can be supplied if required.

After an intensive 4 day course SECCOM 15 is now complete.  Students have completed three days leading in field conditions followed by interviews and presentations.  I would like to congratulate all the students on their full participation in the course and successfully completing SECCOM 15.

All this would not have been possible without the commitment of the staff and cadets who helped out throughout the course and I would like to personally thank them for their efforts over the last few days.  Well done guys.
